All New Maruti Swift – Expected Launch Date & Other Details

The SWIFT has been one of the most successful products for Maruti Suzuki in India till date. The hatchback and its sedan derivative have consistently sold in huge numbers month after month. For 2017, Suzuki has revealed an all-new model that will replace the current Swift internationally, as well as in India. In this post, you can find the first official images of the new 2017 Suzuki Swift. The new model Swift will launch in India early next year. Prices could start at just Rs 4.7 lakh. We’ve compiled the information related to the New Maruti Swift 2017 and you can read all about it here.

Swift 2017

The New-generation Suzuki Swift, or the New Maruti Swift 2017, was unveiled in Japan on December 27, 2016. Specifications of the new model Swift had already leaked ahead of the debut. The JDM Swift gets two engine options – 1.2 L K12C petrol and 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol engine. The new 2017 Swift also gets a 2.3 kW ISG SHVS system. The 1.2 L engine outputs 90 PS-118 Nm. The Boosterjet pumps out 101 PS-150 Nm. Transmission options include- 5-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and CVT. Japan also gets an option of AWD. Fuel mileage figures for the 2017 Swift are- 22.6kmpl for 1.2 2WD Manual, 24kmpl for 1.2 2WD CVT and 20 KMPL for 1.0 4WD 6AT.

Swift 2017

For India, the new Maruti Swift 2017 will retain the current engines. However, both the 1.2 L Petrol and the 1.3 L Diesel mills will be re-tuned. Maruti could even launch its indigenously developed Diesel engine at a later stage. This engine will likely displace 1.3 L and will be high on mileage and performance. The features list for India could include additions like automatic headlights, rear AC vents, touchscreen infotainment system and a cooled glove compartment.

New Maruti Swift 2017 Launch in India

Expected Launch Date
2017 Maruti Swift India Launch
February 2018
We expect India to get the new Swift in the first quarter of 2018. India is a very important market for Suzuki and products like the Swift account for a huge chunk of the total sales. Therefore, we expect Maruti to bring the new Swift to India as soon as possible.

Swift 2017

With the Dzire dominating its hatchback sibling in terms of sales, Maruti sees it as a slightly more important launch. Which means the Indian market will get the compact sedan first by mid-2017, followed by the launch of the new Swift in the early part of 2018. Ford and Tata had also adopted a similar strategy with the Figo-Aspire and Bolt-Zest respectively.

New Maruti Swift 2017 Review – Exterior Design

Much of the exterior design of the upcoming 2017 Maruti Swift had already been made public thanks to leaked images. It retains the sporty character of the current model. The new car gets a more prominent nose with a single piece grille and large fog lamp enclosures. Like the Vitara Brezza, the Swift also gets a floating roof effect and black A & B Pillars. Another noticeable design trait is the C-Pillar mounted rear door handle. The rear of the next generation Swift looks less bulbous. It gets broader tail lamps and a neat little spoiler integrated into the roof. The upcoming car from Maruti Suzuki will also feature new alloys wheels, new wing mirrors and more. Top end variants of the Maruti Swift could feature projector headlamps and LED daytime running lamps.

New Maruti Swift 2017 Interior

Images here show a very modern interior design. There are quite a few circular elements seen here such as the AC vents, auto aircon setup, steering wheel design, etc. A new flat-bottom steering wheel adds some sportiness to the cabin. The 2017 Maruti Swift features a hooded instrument cluster that gets multiple colour modes. Like the Baleno, the Swift also gets a high res colour MID. Some of the switchgear inside the cabin of the Swift could come from existing Maruti Suzuki models in India.

New Maruti Swift 2017 Engine and Transmission

MSIL has a habit of utilising the same engines for most of its products. The 2017 Maruti Swift will continue with the current set of 1.2 Petrol and 1.3 Diesel engines. Both will employ a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. Expect power outputs to remain similar to the current Swift’s. Petrol variants, however, could get an automatic transmission option in the form of a 5-speed AMT. Also, like the upcoming Ignis, even the Diesel variants could get a 5-speed AMT. Maruti is looking at introducing more SHVS models and the new Swift could be one of them. As always, fuel efficiency figures will be among the highest in the segment. Mild Hybrid tech could help 2017 Swift Diesel touch the 30 KMPL mark!
